Tori Review: "Irresistibly Yours" by Lauren Layne

It's Tuesday, My Little Bibliobibulis!

Time for another Review from the magnificent, Tori! *jazz hands* Okay, I'll stop.

Title: Irresistibly Yours
Author: Lauren Lane
Genre: Romance
Publication Date: October 6, 2015
Pages: 236

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

Fantastic! Highly Recommend!

How? Really, how on earth is THIS my first Lauren Layne book? I’m sporting a serious pouty lip at myself for not discovering her delightful writings sooner! Now that I have properly chastised myself, on to my review.

Irresistibly Yours is the first in a spin-off series called Oxford. It can certainly be read first, as I just proved. But if you want to see where it all began, you’ll have to snatch up the four books in Layne’s Stiletto series. Already in my Amazon cart, just saying.

Growing up, I was quite the tomboy. Adamantly refused to wear dresses, climbed trees, the whole nine. But now as a sometimes adult, you might just catch me in a snazzy pair of heels on occasion. So when I realized that the main character, Penelope Pope, was a sports-loving junk food fanatic who manages to trip in her heels and spill coffee on her very white blouse right before a big interview...well I soon decided that this was a character after my own heart.

Layne created a very real and relatable character in Penelope that I found to be rather refreshing. After a broken heart and a stolen job, Penelope decides to move to NYC, start over, and hopefully land a job at the prestigious Oxford Press as the Senior Sports Editor. Only one little problem… she’s not the only one in line for the gig. Enter Cole Sharpe, freelance sports writer who is certain he has the job in the bag. So he is quite shocked to see that his competition is a sweet little brunette that keeps surprising him.

I had a goofy little grin plastered on my face nearly the whole way through this book. It’s funny. It’s sexy. But overall, it’s just sweet. I adored the main characters and loved watching both of them foster a new understanding of what love can bring to the table.

A very enthusiastic 5 quills to Irresistibly Yours!

Until next time my dears!

I am a 25 year old tiny oddball of a woman. I have come to expect that life rarely listens when you huff and puff your way around like some surly old she-wolf. So instead, I have learned to embrace that which makes me quirky. I’m quite a lover of chocolate in all its forms and I ardently believe that it can indeed be served for breakfast. My oven, however, is strictly for shoes.
