Happy Sunday Bibliobabes!
How about a Tori Review? Yes!
Title: Every Last BreathAuthor: Jennifer L. ArmentroutGenre: YA ParanormalPublication Date: July 28, 2015
Some loves will last ’til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…
Very Enjoyable Read!
When I found out that JLA had created a vote-for-who-Layla-should-end-up-with gimmick…I was a little upset. For me, the fact that the author has the power is kind of the whole point. When given the option between two stereotypical characters…the majority of people will always lean towards a certain type. It’s just the way it is. So I was not surprised by who Layla chose. At all.
The “choice” happened so much faster than I assumed it would since the two previous books were leading up to it. I barely had time to settle in with a cup of cocoa and she had already broken a certain someone’s heart. (I am already finding that this review is so hard to write due to the fact that I am trying so very hard not to spoil anything for anyone who has not read it yet. Sigh…okay; I’m going to keep going).
Now that I have gotten my grumbling out of the way, I still enjoyed this book. In typical JLA fashion, the dialogue was witty and the action was badass. My favorite part would have to be Layla’s little jaunt to Hell. I mean, come on…Grim was pretty memorable. As always with this series, I had visions of Supernatural dancing in my head and I will never complain about that.
While the presence of one heartthrob was indeed lacking in this book, I still feel like the emotional roller coaster was still there when you factor in how Layla handles the love-triangle situation. I saw it coming…but like a car crash, you just can’t look away. The steamy scenes fizzled out for me a tad bit in the last installment but it could be due to the fact that I am simultaneously reading books in JLA’s New Adult collection so I won’t judge.
4 quills to Every Last Breath! I’m going to really miss these characters. Too bad there’s not a way for me to go back and read them again. Oh wait…
Until Next Blog!
I am a 25 year old tiny oddball of a woman. I have come to expect that life rarely listens when you huff and puff your way around like some surly old she-wolf. So instead, I have learned to embrace that which makes me quirky. I’m quite a lover of chocolate in all its forms and I ardently believe that it can indeed be served for breakfast. My oven, however, is strictly for shoes.
