Summary: Sometimes life leaves a mark…
Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.
Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.
Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.
Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…
Being as I was over the moon for the first book in this series, Frigid, I was a bit hesitant in reading the second. I even pre-ordered it and the morning it showed up on my Kindle…I started coming up with excuses not to read it yet. Was I really all that interested in Andrea’s story? I was still so wrapped up in how Sydney and Kyler got together that I was dragging my heels on whether or not this new romance could top the first.
I didn’t like it better and I’m not saying that I liked it less either. I’m just saying these two romances are as far apart as you can get when dealing with the New Adult genre. Frigid followed two best friends that finally ended up with their own happily ever after. But Scorched…well it had enough raw emotion to have me in tears more than a few times. My goodness, Armentrout can sure give you feels all over the spectrum.
Andrea is a redheaded firecracker (which I must admit…this Irish girl definitely loves in a female lead) and has no problem dishing back anything she is served and then some. But she has more than just normal college on her mind. She is fighting a battle that many have come up against and many have lost. She has a drinking problem that she doesn’t want to admit to and that has her friends worried from the very beginning.
Enter Tanner…a stunningly gorgeous character, as all the men in the Armentrout universe are, and the perfect counterpart to Andrea’s fiery nature. They can hardly decide from one moment to the next whether they want to strangle each other or kiss. But in perfect Frigid fashion…all it takes is a trip to a cabin in the woods to throw both of them off their axis and into each others arms.
Now here is where I assumed they would get together, some issue would arise, they would fight, get back together, the end (I’m not knocking the process, I’m just saying…it happens a lot in this genre). But I was completely drawn in when everything about Andrea, all her problems, came rushing to the surface and Tanner was a pillar of strength for her that I didn’t foresee at the beginning.
There was some amazing character development in this book as well as the wonderful humor that I always see when dealing with this author…as well as the steamy scenes. Mustn’t forget those. I know I won’t.
5 quills to Scorched! If you are an Armentrout fan such as myself, then you know that she is wonderful. If you haven’t read her any of her books yet, well shame on you and get yourself to the book store, the library, or Amazon and get started. I know I will be anxiously awaiting the many books she has set to release this year.
Until then, happy reading!
