Tori Review: "The Return" by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: The Return

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Genre: New Adult Paranormal

Publication: February 16, 2015

Pages: 347

Summary: The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.

First of all, let me just say that it is good to be back among civilization. Okay, so that might be a touch too dramatic…but due to health issues in which my body decided to stage a palace coup…I went dark for almost 2 months. Sadly…reading took an unwavering hiatus during my time spent stuck in bed. I am now, however, on the mend and back to surfing my beloved blogosphere!

Which brings me to the one and only literary male to keep me company while I was missing the world…Seth from the amazing first installment in the Titan series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I first met Seth when I gobbled up all five books in her Covenant series. He really is the epitome of that guy. He’s gorgeous, charming, and a little dangerous…well, scratch that…he’s mega-danger wrapped up in a blond god-like package and he so knows it. So, naturally, I had a few moments where I let him get under my skin. I had equal moments of wanting to smack him and then swoon moments later. But it was at the end of the last book that my heart completely broke for him and I was secretly hoping that we hadn’t heard the end of his story.

Of course, Armentrout did not disappoint and now he’s back! It’s finally his turn to be tempted when he is tasked by Apollo to protect a girl who is (GASP) off-limits to him. Josie is so wonderfully…human. She was the first character from this series that had to contend with the chaos that the Olympians have caused without any powers. It is through her vulnerability that we finally get to see the softer and sweeter side of Seth.

You all know that I have not been shy with my adoration of this author’s writing so I will reign in my tendency to gush. But, as always, the amazing action and witty dialogue sucked me in from start to finish. Not to mention…as this is technically New Adult and no longer in the YA realm…we have some sinfully steamy scenes that will appeal to the romance readers out there.

4.5 quills to The Return! While I wait for the next book in this series to make its debut, I plan to devour her most recent release Fall With Me posthaste.

Happy Reading!
