About Demons at Deadnight

For seventeen-year-old Aurora Lahey, survival is a lifestyle.

Aurora has the crappiest superpower on the planet. And it’s just unleashed a hit squad from hell. Demons are on the hunt, salivating to carve her carcass into confetti.

The Hex Boys—mysterious, hunky, and notorious for their trails of destruction—have the answers Aurora needs to survive. But their overload of deadly secrets and suspicious motives makes trusting them a potentially fatal move.

The battle to save her family, herself, and stop demonic domination may cost Aurora everything worth living for, and force her to reveal her own dark secrets. But no worries. She needs the Hex Boys to pull this off, and, chances are, teaming up with these guys will get her killed anyway.

      About Drop Dead Demons

        Survival. It’s an on-going battle.
Aurora Lahey finally knows why supernatural slayers salivate to slaughter her, but how to stop them? Not so much. Sure, she’s discovered her own lethal powers, and has six sexy, super-charged, demon hunting Hex Boys watching her back–the hottest one watching every part of her. But when a seductive stranger delivers a deadly ultimatum, Aurora and the Hex Boys plunge into a do-or-die hunt for a legendary Mandatum treasure, which will finally shift power in their favor. Or unleash hell on earth.

Pursued by demons of mythical proportions, Aurora and the Hex Boys race deeper into the shadowy world of a centuries-old mystery and brutal conspiracy, where no one and nothing is what it seems. Where love and betrayal go hand-in-hand, and trusting the wrong person not only breaks your heart, but gets you killed.

Uncovering shocking secrets from the Hex Boys’ past, hiding her Divinicus Nex identity, lying to her pretend-wish-he-were-real boyfriend, dodging demons, breaking into ancient tombs, taking the unexpected side trip to the dark depths of the Waiting World, tracking a traitor, and passing Physics…Aurora could do that in her sleep. Or more likely, die trying.

          About A&E Kirk:

This mother-daughter duo were in and out of inter-dimensional paranormal prisons until they finally quit making up cover stories for secret societies and started writing novels. The Supernatural Continuum Warlords of the Supernatural Continuum Warlordian High Command had pity upon them, and instead of having them slaughtered by the slow, tortuous flesh eating underwater, earthworm squid, they transported them into a habitationally friendly dimension called OOARCHTOHUTHLAMADILFRUMP, also known as 21st Century Earth.
Due to a demon infestation in their sleepy mountain California town, and a lack of sexy Hex Boys to stop them, Alyssa and Eileen were forced to relocate to Los Angeles. The Amazon best seller, DEMONS AT DEADNIGHT, is book one in the DIVINICUS NEX CHRONICLESseries, and the first of their exclusive re-creations of supernatural society secrets. Character Interview

Auggie: So you’re on the run from hell’s minions and you’ve only got 15 minutes to stop and grab a bite to eat. What fast food joint are you going to swing by?

Aurora: In-N’-Out Burger. Fries, chocolate milkshake, and cheese burger with the works, because when running for my life, I burn enough calories to afford it. And all those carbs give me reason to live!

Auggie: A girl’s always got to have ONE essential item with her at all times. What’s yours?

Aurora: A back-up plan for when things go wrong. Because they always do.

Auggie:  Everyone’s going crazy to know more about the mysterious Hex Boys.  Do you have a favorite? Anyone you’re particularly drawn to?

Aurora: The Hex Boys are equal parts hot, hilarious, and hellacious fighters. They’ve had my back more than once, but a favorite? Blake put you up to that question, right? *glances around* I’m not stepping on that landmine. All of them are my favorite in different situations.  Logan’s patient and supportive when I suck at all this demon stuff. Tristan’s worries a ton, but helps pull me back from extra stupid decisions. Jayden always tells the truth, I just need a dictionary to translate the genius’s ridiculous vocabulary. Matthias is my favorite to mess because he’s such a jerk and deserves it.

And then there’s Ayden…*sighs dreamily* He’s hot literally and figuratively. So smooth, but can be awkward which is somehow adorably sweet. He’s irritating when he’s overprotective, but somehow sexy at the same time. He drives me crazy. In good ways. And bad. It’s very confusing. And sexy. Did I mention that? And then there’s Blake who even in the worst possible situations, makes us all smile. *looks over shoulder and raises voice* Which would make Blake my favorite!

Blake: *jumps out of hiding* I knew it!

Aurora: Oh my God. *gapes at Blake’s barely there Spartan costume*

Ayden: *steps out not in costume* You idiot. She just said that to draw you out. Of course, I’m her favorite. Were you not listening? I’m sexy and adorable.

Blake: I heard irritating. Besides, she knew you were here too. She just said all that to save your delicate ergo.

Ayden: You mean ego. And it’s not delicate.

Blake: It’s sad that you’re so illusional.

          Ayden: Delusional!

Blake: *claps Ayden on the shoulder* Glad you can finally admit it, dude.

          Ayden: *growls in frustration*

Aurora: *still gaping at Blake* What are you wearing?

Blake: *looks down at his broad chest and chisel abs before flexing incredible biceps* It’s Halloween, babe. *taps silver helmet* Knight in shining armor.

Ayden: *pokes Blake’s abs* But there’s no armor.

Blake: *waves hand over self* Why would I want to cover this up?

Aurora: It’s a Spartan cos— Nevermind. Why are you guys here?

Ayden: I just came to make sure he didn’t bug you.

Aurora: *rolls eyes* Epic fail on that count. Steal my interview and I’m kicking you out.

Blake: I didn’t plan on stealing your interview babe, just Auggie’s heart.

          Ayden: *gags*

Auggie: It’s the end of the world and you can only listen to one more song. Which one is it?

Aurora: Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. It’s old, like my parents who play it often and dance to it but that’s another horror. I’d use it to get motivated because after all I’ve been through, I can figure out how to stop the end of the world.

Blake: She is good at getting out of impossible situations.

Ayden: After she gets herself, and us, in them.

Aurora: No one asked you. Moving on.

Auggie: How about giving us readers 3 important “never-forget” rules for living life on the run?

          Aurora: Don’t trust anyone.

          Ayden and Blake: Hey!

Aurora: Unless it’s a Hex Boy. Ditch anything electronic. It can be tracked.

Ayden: Yeah, that’s how I tracked Blake here. Cell phone.

          Blake: It’s off.

          Ayden: I’m that good.

Aurora: Tip three, always use cash. Tip four, change your appearance, tip five, avoid surveillance cameras—

Ayden: *eyeing Aurora with concern* Auggie only asked for three. Why do you know so much about this?

          Aurora: Aunt M.

Ayden: *Shivers* Your crazy aunt is intense.

Blake: Do you still have her taser?

Aurora: If I did, I’d use it on you right about now.

Auggie: So we know that your life is constantly on the line.  How do you relax on those really stressful days?

Ayden: Playing really bad croquet with her family.

Blake: And cooking with her mom. Or reading mythology books.

Ayden: Anything that doesn’t involve leaving her house.

Aurora: I leave my house to do fun, relaxing things.

          Ayden: Like what?

Aurora: Pssh, like…*scratches head* going to your house to…see if there are any new leads on the traitor trying to kill me. Okay, so maybe I need to do more fun stuff.

          Auggie: Weapon of choice?

          Aurora: My quick wit.

          Ayden and Blake: No.

Aurora: Oh. *nods with confidence* Then my sharp detective skills.

Ayden: You’re the worst detective ever! Remember when you thought we were trying to kill you?

          Blake: Drug you?

Ayden: Sell you to human traffickers?

Aurora: *glares* Weapon of choice is anything sharp. Liking knives right about now.

Ayden: *scoots back* See? Much scarier.

Blake: Babe does have killer knife throwing skills, but my skills with the ladies are much more interesting. I’m sure Auggie would love a demonstration.

          Ayden: No, she would not.

          Blake: But—

          Aurora: Next question!

          Auggie: Coffee or Tea?

Aurora: *smiles at Ayden* Coffee. Chocolate raspberry mocha.

Ayden: With cinnamon. Did you know it comes in sticks?

          Blake: Dude, everyone knows that.

Auggie: Any advice for aspiring survivalists being chased by demon hell spawn?

Aurora: First, don’t get chased by demon hell spawn. But if you’re like me and that’s impossible, you’d better hone your fighting skills, get in great shape so you can run to holy ground asap, and best of all, get a most awesome Hex Boy to help you out.

          Blake: She means me.

          Ayden: *Snorts* No way.

Blake: Enough with the jealousy. Let’s face it. Besides running, I’m the only thing keeping babe alive.

Aurora: Hey, what about my own awesome powers? I’m dangerous.

Blake: Dangerously hot in those jeans!

          Ayden: Give it up.

Blake: Never. But, you’re right, as hostess with the mostest, Auggie deserves all my attention. *takes Auggie’s hand* So lovely lady, how about you and I—

Aurora: Never meet again. Thanks so much for having us, Auggie. Ayden, little help?

Ayden: *dragging Blake out* Yeah, Auggie deserves much better than you.

Aurora: See? Best to have a Hex Boy around to help you out of disastrous situations. Especially when that disastrous situation is another Hex Boy. Blake being the worst.

Blake: *yells from outside* I heard that!

Aurora: But I just called you my number one. Number one worst, but still that makes you—

Blake: Your bestest worstest! Awesome! See little man? Told you I’m her favorite. Ow! Did Matthias not mention my safe word?

Aurora: Thanks for putting up with them, Auggie. Happy Halloween!

Tori Review: "You Are Mine" by Janeal Falor

          Title: You Are Mine
          Author: Janeal Falor
          Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
          Publication: May 6, 2013
          Pages: 370

Serena knows a few simple things. She will always be owned by a warlock. She will never have freedom. She will always do what her warlock wishes, regardless of how inane, frivolous, or cruel it is. And if she doesn’t follow the rules, she will be tarnished. Spelled to be bald, inked, and barren for the rest of her life—worth less than the shadow she casts.

Then her ownership is won by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

I found myself a little thrown off when I first began You Are Mine. I am quite the independent little thing and it was hard to place myself in the middle of such a story. Serena is from a world where women are breeders and nothing more.  Women are owned. A girl belongs to her father until her blood is tested for its magic components. Based upon the results, warlocks (men of the society) bid for said girl. The highest bidder now owns her and she has NO choice but to comply and marry this man.

It is then her job to produce heirs of the male variety, as females are only worth as much as what magic they possess in their blood. Only warlocks practice magic and they use it and their fists to continuously punish their women. Anything from a hair being out of place to looking a man in the eye for too long can result in a beating of the physical or magical sort.

You see now why I was a bit on the shaky side with this book. Even the writing felt rigid and just too constrained at first. I felt like I wanted to just breathe some fight back into these women or place myself in the crosshairs to protect them. In Serena’s world, that would have meant either my death or my tarnishment – a type of banishment that consists of being spelled to be inked, bald, and worthless.

When Serena’s blood shows large concentrations of magic, she is sold to a man that you would never want anywhere near any female you care about. He is a disgusting and revolting character.  A “barbarian” named Zade from a distant country then “wins” her in a tournament and Serena finds herself belonging to a man who is nothing like any warlock she has ever known.

About halfway through the book I stopped because sleep inevitably beckoned and I was still so unsettled with how I felt about the book. I think something just made up my mind for me overnight. Dreams or what have you, I woke and was anxious to find out what was to become of Serena and Zade.

3.5 quills to You Are Mine. It is the kind of book that just sneaks up on you a little, slowly reeling you in until it firmly has your attention. I couldn’t quite give it 4 quills, as I was looking for a little something more.  However, it did strike my fancy enough that I am about to settle in and read the second installment of the Mine series, Mine to Spell.

          Until next time!
