ABOUTSusan Jean Riccci

I've been writing since I was a wee child and discovered crayons weren't part of a food   group. My sometimes controversial rants have appeared in my local newspaper, the Asbury Park Press, and I've won several awards via the Writer's Digest 78th Annual Writer's Contest and the Philadelphia Writer's Conference.

Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to publish in Parenting Teens Magazine, Good Dog Magazine, and Aim Intercultural Magazine. I'm currently concluding the sequel to Dinosaurs and Cherry Stems, The Sugar Ticket. Then I will move on to revising a contemporary novel called, Slick Trespass

My current release, Dinosaurs & Cherry Stems, is a humorous, contemporary romance about achieving mid-life adolescence, in spite of the baggage incurred with one's history. My eBook, Heart Marks the Spot: Three Short Stories can also be found on Amazon for Kindle as well.

My husband, Joseph, and I live in a lovely town in New Jersey near the sea. Together we have seven children and nine grandchildren.

Review: "Evertaster" by Adam Sidwell

Happy Monday, Muffins!

That's right, it's Monday and Muffins are perfectly what's up! That is... if you're reading EVERTASTER "The Buttersmith's Gold". The hilarious juvenile fiction of two viking brothers that love muffins... a lot.

This was such an enjoyable little read (124 pages) and I highly recommend. Information found below with my review at the end.

Evertaster Tour

The Buttersmiths' Gold
Everyone knows the most coveted treasure of the Viking Age was blueberry muffins. Blueberry muffins so succulent that if you sniffed just a whiff, you'd want a whole bite. If you bit a bite, you'd want a batch; if you snatched a batch, you'd stop at nothing short of going to war just to claim them all.
Young Torbjorn Trofastsonn comes from the clan that makes them. He's a Viking through and through – he's thirteen winters old, larger than most respectable rocks, and most of all, a Buttersmith. That's what he thinks anyway, until a charismatic merchant makes Torbjorn question his place among the muffin-makers.

When Torbjorn lets the secret of his clan's muffin recipe slip, he calls doom and destruction down upon his peaceful village and forces his brother Storfjell and his clansmen to do the one thing they are ill-prepared to do: battle for their lives.

About The Buttersmiths' Gold
The Buttersmiths' Gold is a spin off novella in the Evertaster series that tells the story of two Viking brothers and their adventurous past. The Evertaster series (Book #1 released June 14, 2012) is about Guster Johnsonville, who goes searching for a legendary taste rumored to be the most delicious in all of history. Along the way he meets a slew of mysterious characters, including two Viking brothers Torbjorn and Storfjell. The Buttersmiths' Gold is their story. 124 pages. By Adam Glendon Sidwell. Published by Future House Publishing.

Evertaster, Book #1:
A legendary taste. Sought after for centuries. Shrouded in secrecy.
When eleven-year-old Guster Johnsonville rejects his mother’s casserole for the umpteenth time, she takes him into the city of New Orleans to find him something to eat. There, in a dark, abandoned corner of the city they meet a dying pastry maker. In his last breath he entrusts them with a secret: an ancient recipe that makes the most delicious taste the world will ever know — a taste that will change the fate of humanity forever.
Forced to flee by a cult of murderous chefs, the Johnsonvilles embark on a perilous journey to ancient ruins, faraway jungles and forgotten caves. Along the way they discover the truth: Guster is an Evertaster — a kid so picky that nothing but the legendary taste itself will save him from starvation. With the sinister chefs hot on Guster’s heels and the chefs’ reign of terror spreading, Guster and his family must find the legendary taste before it’s too late.

Book Trailer
Author Adam Sidwell In between books, Adam Glendon Sidwell uses the power of computers to make monsters, robots and zombies come to life for blockbuster movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, King Kong, Transformers and Tron. After spending countless hours in front of a keyboard meticulously adjusting tentacles, calibrating hydraulics, and brushing monkey fur, he is delighted at the prospect of modifying his creations with the flick of a few deftly placed adjectives. He’s been eating food since age 7, so feels very qualified to write this book. He once showed a famous movie star where the bathroom was. Adam currently lives in Los Angeles, where he can’t wait to fall into the sea.

Excerpt #1:
Almost every historian you ever meet will tell you that there is nothing Vikings love more than blueberry muffins. Blueberry muffins with blueberries shining like gems atop the muffin’s golden crown. Blueberry muffins with little bubbles of succulent blue juice that burst in your mouth when you sever their skin with your teeth. Blueberry muffins for breakfast, blueberry muffins for lunch, blueberry muffins for supper next to your clan’s roaring fire in the longhouse.
Most historians would tell you that’s what Vikings love most. Most historians would be wrong.
“You boys sure seem to love muffins more than anything!” said Braxton. The old pilot had seen it all in his day – kangaroo rodeos, bees on bicycles, and even a fish who could shoot – but never ever in his whole life did he expect to be stranded on board a wooden ship in the middle of the sea with a pair of humongous Vikings.
And now that pair had laid aside their horned helmets and were shoveling blueberry muffins into their mouths by the fistful.
“Oh yah! ha ha!” laughed the larger of the two Vikings – his name was Storfjell – with a deep, rumbly laugh that shook his mountainous belly. Golden-brown muffin crumbs fell from Storfjell’s mouth into his silvery beard. He was at least eleven feet tall, with a pair of silver braids that must have been woven from moonbeams. “What you are saying is a common mistake! We are loving blueberry muffins very much! But you know what we are loving even more?” Storfjell said between mouthfuls.
Braxton’s watery eyes twinkled. The cows mooed. “I could venture a guess,” he said.

Excerpt #2:
Young Torbjorn Trofastsonn of Smordal knew quite well that the tastiest thing in the whole world was butter. Creamy, rich and smooth. Butter was the reason his clan invented blueberry muffins in the first place – they’d needed something to smear it on. Butter was their lifeblood. Butter was the warmth in their hearts, the horns on their helmets, the tips of their mustaches.
Butter was also their greatest secret.
Torbjorn hoisted an oversized basket full of steaming hot muffins into his arms and tottered down the gangplank onto the sandy shore of Viksfjord, the merchants’ village. He and his clan had sailed from the open sea into the fjord this morning, where he and his brother Storfjell had helped Father and the bovines row the final twenty miles to the sand.
Auggie's Review

The Buttersmith's Gold is thee story of the two Viking brothers that Guster meets in the first book.
This book was ADORABLE. Absolutely exactly what you'd expect from a middle grade adventure and certainly very creative and imaginative. The names are a little hard to pronounce and follow, which might give your younger readers some trouble but other than this, it's a fantastic story.

The written accents are charming and the whole story is just rather a fantastic jump into a funny, quirky, world that children (and adults too) will love to go. You can tell the author had a a good time writing this book. There's a sort of folk-lorish twist on this which turns it into an absurd bedtime story and will absolutely have you and your youngsters giggling through the evening.

Torbjorn and his brother find themselves in a world of trouble when they let their mouths overload and their clan's wonderful secret is let out. Oops! Now they're fighting for their lives and their cows! (Yes... adorable, hilarious cows).

If you are looking for a light hearted fun adventure read for you or your kiddos then this one is a definite must-have.

Could someone please turn this into a movie?!
That's all for this Monday, dearlings.

Supernatural Fun Facts: Featured Author SHERRY SOULE

Happy Thursday, my doves!

It's another great day for a FEATURED AUTHOR post!

As you discovered LAST WEEK, the June and July Featured author is Sherry Soule, author of "Immortal Eclipse".

We've got some great great guest posts from this author. Find a schedule on the "Featured Author" page.

Today's post is "Supernatural Fun Facts", written by Sherry for all of you guys!

“Supernatural Fun Facts”
Today’s post is provided by author Sherry Soule, who is celebrating the release of her new novel, Immortal Eclipse on April 30, 2013. If you like supernatural suspense mingled with a dash of chick-lit and a healthy dose of paranormal romance, then this is the book for you!
Sherry has put together three supernatural fun facts about her novel. In this post, you can learn more about the intriguing, supernatural legends that makeup the eerie world of the Summerwind Mansion.

Supernatural Fun Fact #1
A doppelganger is believed to be a ghostly double of a living person that haunts its living counterpart. Although pop culture references to doppelgängers—a German word translating to double-walker—are often used to describe people who resemble one another, the word has a rich and often sinister history, which has more to do with ghost stories. The fact that the apparition is presumed in most cultures to be a specter from the grave, may well account for the macabre reaction bestowed upon the doppelganger encounter.
In any case, a person is presumably being stalked by his own ghost, which not only provokes some complex questions about out-of-body experiences, but also conveys the conspicuous implication that the subject’s own time is up. There have even been several famous accounts of doppelgangers throughout history. Poet Percy Bysshe Shelley saw his in a dream, and Abraham Lincoln saw his doppelganger as a second face in the mirror. Both men saw them shortly before their deaths.

Have you ever seen your own doppelganger?

Supernatural Fun Fact #2
You hear footsteps upstairs when you know no one is up there. Doors slam unaccountably. Lights flicker. Unexplained shadows. The feeling of being watched…
These may be indications that your house is haunted. Paranormal experts say that a haunted house is described as a residence that is believed to have paranormal activity. Haunted houses are often regarded to contain the lost souls of deceased people who have lived on the property.
A haunted house can also contain poltergeists and malevolent entities, such as demons. Temperature fluctuations in certain rooms may prove it was the scene of at least one nefarious plot. Ghosts are considered the life force that remains after a person or an animal loses its physical existence. The ability to perceive this disembodied soul is considered by some to be a gift (or curse) of Second Sight or another sixth sense.
So, do you believe a house can be haunted by ghosts or other things that go bump in the night?
Supernatural Fun Fact #3
The 'art' of magic is an attempt to alter events by an unnatural, inexplicable, and unscientific method. Black magic has been traditionally referred to as the use of mystical powers for evil and/or selfish purposes. Black magic refers to magical practices that can cause misfortune, sickness, or even death to others. It is believed to be an ancient science that made use of chants combined with the power of thought to bring about results. These chants are very powerful. Just like positive thoughts can be used to bring good fortune, negative thoughts can bring about misfortune, too. The darkest of all the black arts is undoubtedly necromancy, the ancient ritual of resurrecting the dead.
Do you believe black magic can harm its intended victim? Have you ever been a victim of it?

About Along the Watchtower

A Tragic Warrior Lost in Two Worlds…

The war in Iraq ended for Lieutenant Freddie Williams when an IED explosion left his mind and body shattered.

Once he was a skilled gamer and expert in virtual warfare.  Now he’s a broken warrior, emerging from a medically induced coma to discover he’s inhabiting two separate realities.  The first is his waking world of pain, family trials, and remorse—and slow rehabilitation through the tender care of Becky, his physical therapist. The second is a dark fantasy realm of quests, demons, and magic that Freddie enters when he sleeps.

In his dreams he is Frederick, Prince of Stormwind, who must make sense of his horrific visions in order to save his embattled kingdom from the monstrous Horde.  His only solace awaits him in the royal gardens, where the gentle words of the beautiful gardener, Rebecca, calm the storms in his soul. While in the conscious world, the severely wounded vet faces a strangely similar and equally perilous mission—a journey along a dark road haunted by demons of guilt and memory—and letting patient, loving Becky into his damaged and shuttered heart may be his only way back from Hell.

About There Comes a Prophet

But what are we without dreams?

A thousand years ago the Darkness came—a terrible time of violence, fear, and social collapse when technology ran rampant. But the vicars of the Temple of Light brought peace, ushering in an era of blessed simplicity. For ten centuries they have kept the madness at bay with “temple magic” and by eliminating forever the rush of progress that nearly caused the destruction of everything.

A restless dreamer, Nathaniel has always lived in the tiny village of Little Pond, longing for something more but unwilling to challenge the unbending status quo. When his friend Thomas returns from the Temple after his “teaching”—the secret coming-of-age ritual that binds young men and women eternally to the Light—Nathaniel can barely recognize the broken and brooding young man the boy has become. And when the beautiful Orah is summoned as well, Nathaniel knows he must somehow save her. But in the prisons of Temple City he discovers a terrible secret that launches the three of them on a journey to find the forbidden keep, placing their lives in dire jeopardy. For a truth awaits them there that threatens the foundation of the Temple. But if they reveal that truth, the words of the book of light might come to pass:

“If there comes among you a prophet saying ‘Let us return to the darkness,’ you shall stone him, because he has sought to thrust you away from the light.”
