Dolls and dears, today is that last day of June which means that Auggie-Talk is finally starting TRILOGY TUESDAY and FEATURED FRIDAY back up!

I announced earlier this month who the Trilogy Tuesday and Featured Friday authors were for July, but we've all slept wince then so here's another look at what's coming for these special featuers in July.

July's featured author is CHARLAINE HARRIS.

Ms. Harris should have been featured in May since that's the month that her newest SOOKIE STACKHOUSE book was released. However, since I went on sudden hiatus for the month of May and some of June I pushed it all back and will be featuring her properly in July. Expect the first FEATURE FRIDAY this Friday!

July's TRILOGY TUESDAY is all about DIANA WYNNE JONES and her castle series. That would be Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, and The House of Many Ways.

If you'd like to keep up with the trilogies the find these wonderful books at your local library or wiggle your way into the following links:

HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE
Powell's Books: $4.99
(No e-version available)

CASTLE IN THE AIR
Powell's Books: $4.95
(No e-version available)

THE HOUSE OF MANY WAYS
Powell's Books: $5.95

Due to some unforeseen circumstances (it's called life, people! If I could make this my career you know I would! But until that happens there will be plenty of "unforeseen circumstances". ;) ) I was unable to get a book in edgewise this week.  So we're just scooting everything back a bit.

This is a holiday week (4th of July), so I've got plenty of free time.

Anyway: IF YOU HAVE AN AUTHOR OR TRILOGY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE FEATURED ON AUGGIE-TALK PLEASE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL WITH YOUR REQUEST. WE'RE HAPPY TO FEATURE YOUR FAVORITES!

Title: The Madman's Daughter
Author: Megan Shepherd

Genre: Historical Fiction/Fantasy
Release Date: January 29, 2013

Synopsis: London, 1894. Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father’s gruesome experiments. But when she learns her father is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations were true.

Juliet is accompanied by the doctor’s handsome young assistant and an enigmatic castaway, who both attract Juliet for very different reasons. They travel to the island only to discover the depths of her father’s madness: he has created animals that have been vivisected to resemble, speak, and behave as humans. Worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island’s inhabitants. Juliet knows she must end her father’s dangerous experiments and escape the island, even though her horror is mixed with her own scientific curiosity. As the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father’s genius—and madness—in her own blood.

Title: The Raven Boys
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Genre:YA Supernatural
Release Date: September 18, 2012

Synopsis: “There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

Title: The Restorer
Author:  Amanda Stevens
Genre: Supernatural
Publication: April 19, 2011
Pages: 376

Synopsis: Amelia Gray has always been aware of ghosts, and now she travels all over the South cleaning up forgotten or abandoned graveyards. When an enigmatic yet haunted police detective asks for her help to trap a serial killer, their growing attraction constitutes the very gravest of threats.

Why I want to read it:

I very much enjoy paranormal mysteries/thrillers. The cover of this book caught me, and I remember thinking to myself the first time I saw it "Wow! I need to read this."I haven't read a good mystery/thriller in a while. I figure I'm past due!

❖❀❖❈❖ ❖❀❖❈❖ ❖❀❖❈❖
Title: SplinteredAuthor: A.G. HowardGenre: YA FantasyPublication: January 1st, 2013 (To Be Released)Pages: 400
Synopsis:
For sixteen years, Alyssa Gardner has lived with the stigma of being descended from Alice Liddell—the real life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s famed novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. But cruel jokes about dormice and tea parties can’t compare to the fact that Alyssa hears the whispers of bugs and flowers... the same quirk which sent her mother to a mental institution years before.

When her mother takes a turn for the worse and the whispers grow too strong for Alyssa to bear, she seeks the origins of their family curse. A set of heirlooms and a moth tied to an unusual website lead Alyssa and her gorgeous best friend / secret crush, Jeb, down the rabbit hole into the real Wonderland, a place more twisted and eerie than Lewis Carroll ever let on.

There, creepy counterparts of the original fairytale crew reveal the purpose for Alyssa’s journey, and unless she fixes the things her great-great-great grandmother Alice put wrong, Wonderland will have her head.
Why I want to read it:

For those of you who don't know, I'm a sucker for Alice in Wonderland. I love Lewis Carols original stories and have been fond of many of the remakes. After this latest movie I've been kind of itching for more Alice. I know I'll have to wait until next year, but this book seems like it will be WELL worth it!

Title: The Trouble With Magic
Author: Madelyn Alt

Antiques-shop clerk Maggie O'Neill was a little weirded out when she discovered her new boss Felicity was a witch. But when Felicity becomes the suspect in a local murder, Maggie must enlist Felicity's wiccan friends for help--and discover her own spellbinding talent. Why I want to read it:

I've begun to enjoy the magical mystery books. There are quite a few of them out there and I have to say that it really does take the bad taste out of my mouth left by other mystery series that had nothing but suspense. I enjoy suspense and thrill but only if there are other aspects as well.

Title: Cinder
Author: Marissa Meyer
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication: January 3, 2012
Pages: 387

Synopsis:
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, the ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.
Why I want to read it:

I've been seeing this on the shelves for months now and I've almost picked it up SO MANY TIMES! GAH! Every time I go for it though I talk myself out of it. I very rarely buy full-priced hard-cover books. VERY RARELY. The prices are too expensive for what I know I can get on kindle for less. I can usually be pretty patient enough, as well, to wait for the paperback versions. This one though... this one keeps singing to me from the shelves. I think next time I got to my LBS I'll have to pick it up.

Title: Girl Of Nightmares
Author: Kendare Blake
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publication: August 7, 2012
Pages: 304

Synopsis:
It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live--not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.
Why I want to read it:

I own the first in this series, "Anna Dressed in Blood", on my kindle so I'm excited to be getting my hands on this second one. The cover-art is really compelling (and creepy, which is a plus). I'm just hoping that these books can live up to their creepy boasting!

Jane discovers one secret about Birch Grove, which only leads to more mysteries. What is she willing to sacrifice in order to stay at this school...and be bound to Birch Grove forever?
Why I want to read it:

Everywhere I see this book. Everyone wants this book. I have to say that this normally wouldn't be a cover I'd snatch up right away, but with as many people clamoring to read this I'm going to have to check it out for myself.

Title: Divergent
Author: Veronica Roth
Genre: YA Dystopian
Publication: May 3, 2011
Pages: 487

Synopsis:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.
Why I want to read it:

This one is really simple... I want to read Insurgent. Badly. I thought that Insurgent was the first in a series and just when I was going to buy it I was confronted with the information that it's actually #2. This means I'm going to have to read #1 first! Yeeg!

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.
Why I want to read it:

This book seems very very very promising. The Synopsis itself wasn't long enough for me! I wanted to read more! If that's any indication then I'm going to be flipping through these pages rather quickly and I'm probably going to end up getting stuck anxiously waiting for the next one by this author. Hmm. I don't mind that at all!

With old friends and new friends joining forces, a marvelous ship, fearsome foes, and an exotic setting, The Mark of Athena promises to be another unforgettable adventure by master storyteller Rick Riordan.

PLEDGED TOUR and GIVEAWAY

Hello Hello my dearling!

It's MONDAY! Ooooh, I know. I know. Monday isn't usually a favorite. However, I'm going to try to make it a little more enjoyable by introducing you today to a highly anticipated book.

I might also have a..... GIVEAWAY! (Or two!)

Oh so excited! Let's begin!

❖❀❖❈❖❀❖❈❖❀❖❈❖❀ ❖❀❖❈❖❀
❀ PLEDGED
By Gwynneth White
SYNOPSIS
❖❀❖❈❖❀❖❈❖❀❖❈❖❀ ❖❀❖❈❖❀

Everyone has a soul mate. But what do you do when your soul mate would rather give his soul to the demons than be with you?

Seventeen-year-old Erin has a problem. Seth has been hers forever, but now an ancient promise is tearing him away. And Reuel, the demon to whom the promise was made, will stop at nothing to force Seth to forsake Erin and to worship him.

How can Erin win against a pledge so binding that it has damned countless others to the same fate she and Seth will face if Reuel wins – an eternity alone?

The answer lies in the past. To find it, Erin and Seth must risk all, traveling back in time to a dangerous world where love is forbidden, and life – and death – hang on a promise.

Follow Erin and Seth as they travel to ancient Shenaya to break the pledge that has plagued their families for millennia. Caught in a war between the Angelic Guardians and the Gefallen, the disembodied dead, they must fight to keep their souls in tact and their love untainted.

My Thoughts:
This seems like it's going to be a GREAT story! Now ya'll, this book actually hasn't been RELEASED yet so you're just going to have to wait in eager anticipation! I'm actually quite interested in getting my hands on this. I'm interested in books that utilize the angel-demon concepts in unique ways. It seems like that's very popular right now and some of the books that I've seen have gone horribly wrong but this one truly does seem like it's going to be worth the read. I guess we'll find out!

Cover Art: The cover-art is simple but powerful. The fingers barely touching, the colorless background with the necklace as the focal point hovering right above the authors name. This looks like something I would pick up to look at in the book-store.

I have spent my entire life living in a parallel universe of make-believe characters, only coming back to reality for long enough to check that no one burnt the house down in my absence. A few years ago I decided to commit some of those ‘friends’ and their stories to paper. The Soul Wars Saga is the result of those efforts. Before that I co-authored two non-fiction travel books – The Complete Guide to 4x4 Trails and The Ultimate 4x4 Guide. Both books became instant best-sellers in South Africa where I live. And before that even, I studied a degree in African History and Politics at the University of Stellenbosch. When I’m not writing, I am a wife to Andrew and a mom to Stephanie, Erin, and Kate, our teenage daughters. My family and I live in a small town outside Cape Town with two dogs, a cat, a horse, and some neglected fish. Now that you know a little about me, I would love to get to know you. It’s winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems...

Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better--the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.

On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel...something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.

In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.

Em and Chase have been chosen.

I had really high hopes for this book in the beginning. But, just as it is with so many other YA fiction books these days, I started to become disappointed and bored as I got towards the middle of the book.

The story concept is great. The ancient Furies are back (you know the ones. Hades' pets from Greek mythology that send havoc upon those who commit heinous crimes, familial homicide in particular) and they're out to get Em and Chase both of who have committed some atrocity or another against their fellow peers.

Predictable book for the most part. Not to mention the furies showing up in their human form to scare the crap out of Em or Chase started to get really really old. I mean, how many times does Em have to almost run off the road in her car?

Another issue I had with the book was that the characters were much too adult to be believable teenagers. The teen drama at the school was the only thing that kept them anchored to their ages. So much drinking! Every characters parents were conveniently working late or out of town in an unbelievable number of circumstances (on the holidays) that allowed their children to end up in situations that were kind of out of control.  Also, a little too much nudity for me. I get that high-school kids are kind of raging hormone animals but... come on. A sensual night of just being 'naked together', covered in paint, and nothing else happening? A little too adult romance to be teen-centered.

Anyway, a couple of good points? Bullying was really addressed in this book. The kind of bullying we're talking about here resulted in some suicide issues that the author also touches on which I think, in general, is a great thing.

The creep-out aspect of it was pretty good decent too, so I have to give the author that. There were some really good CREEPY moments... like Sasha's little chat with Em right before she dies. Would have made for GOOD horror if it were a movie. I rarely get creeped out by books, but this author did a pretty good job in a couple of areas.

Backtracking though... this book could have been a stand-alone and not the first part of a series. The cliff hanger at the end left much to be desired and really didn't have me wanting to grab up the next one. By the end of the book I was kind of done with the story. I don't know, maybe in a while I'll be interested enough to pick up the next one.

Wasn't terrible, wasn't the best book I've ever picked up. I'd give it a "Meh".  A three out of five. I gave it a 3 instead of a 2 mostly because I appreciated the Greek mythology references.

From the author of the highly addictive and bestselling Blue Bloods series, with almost 3 million copies sold, comes a new novel, Melissa de la Cruz's first for adults, featuring a family of formidable and beguiling witches.

The three Beauchamp women--Joanna and her daughters Freya and Ingrid--live in North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. Their beautiful, mist-shrouded town seems almost stuck in time, and all three women lead seemingly quiet, uneventful existences. But they are harboring a mighty secret--they are powerful witches banned from using their magic. Joanna can resurrect people from the dead and heal the most serious of injuries. Ingrid, her bookish daughter, has the ability to predict the future and weave knots that can solve anything from infertility to infidelity. And finally, there's Freya, the wild child, who has a charm or a potion that can cure most any heartache.

For centuries, all three women have been forced to suppress their abilities. But then Freya, who is about to get married to the wealthy and mysterious Bran Gardiner, finds that her increasingly complicated romantic life makes it more difficult than ever to hide her secret. Soon Ingrid and Joanna confront similar dilemmas, and the Beauchamp women realize they can no longer conceal their true selves. They unearth their wands from the attic, dust off their broomsticks, and begin casting spells on the townspeople. It all seems like a bit of good-natured, innocent magic, but then mysterious, violent attacks begin to plague the town. When a young girl disappears over the Fourth of July weekend, they realize it's time to uncover who and what dark forces are working against them.

With a brand-new cast of characters, a fascinating and fresh world to discover, and a few surprise appearances from some of the Blue Blood fan favorites, this is a page-turning, deliciously fun, magical summer read fraught with love affairs, witchcraft, and an unforgettable battle between good and evil.

Author: Libba Bray

A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel.

Sixteen-year-old Gemma has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother's death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control. Gemma is left with the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order. A Great and Terrible Beauty is an impressive first book in what should prove to be a fascinating trilogy.
