Follow Friday

Second post for the day because I wanted to begin participating in this great little meme hosted by parajunkee and alisoncanread! I hope you'll join this great little Find and Follow party!

And the question for this week is...
Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

That has happened to me before, actually. Haruki Murakami, one of my favorite authors, wrote a book called "KAFKA ON THE SHORE". The book was a little too modern-sounding for my taste but I'd heard good things so I picked it up. LOVED IT! Murakami became one of my favorite authors after that book.

This is why I love listening to other peoples opinions about books. If someone hadn't told me how good Murakami was then I never would have ventured to try his book, never would have fallen in love with this writing style, and never would have enjoyed "Kafka on the Shore" and others.

How about you?  Oh... and I suggest you give "Kafka on the Shore" a try!

  2. Hopping through. I should read more Japanese authors. I read manga of course, but the only Japanese author I've read is Banana Yoshimoto.

  4. I haven't read that one, but exactly the same thing happened to me regarding Murakami. A few years ago, a pal on LJ had posted something about him, and I picked up one of his books at random in the store, just to check it. I fell in love with this author's writing after that.

  6. I'm a new follower. I haven't heard of that book, but I might check it out one day. I just need a few extra hours each day, so I can read all the books I'd like to :)

    Here's my FF post.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Thanks for the follow and here I am for you! I agree that word of mouth is just about the best way to find out about a book, especially one you wouldn't gravitate to on your own. A personal recommendation includes a passion for the book read needed to get you out of your comfort zone sometimes.
